For Meredith Colaizzi, Girls on the Run coordinator, a typical weekday means waking up at 5 a.m. to run six or seven miles before sunrise, heading to work for a full day, and then swimming laps in the pool or taking a 50- to 60-mile bike ride.

For most people, this is a lot of exercise for one day, but not for Meredith.  In addition to being the program coordinator for Girls on the Run, Meredith is a triathlete who finished her first Ironman race in Madison, Wis., in September 2004.  The grueling Ironman competition includes a 2.4-mile swim in a lake or ocean, a 112-mile bike ride and a 26.2-mile marathon.  She finished the race in 11 hours and 55 minutes and placed in the top 10 in the 25 to 29 age group.

Meredith graduated with a degree in elementary education from the University of Dayton, where she was a coxswain for the women's rowing team and active in sports, including softball and volleyball.  With this background, Meredith feels at home as coordinator for the Girls on the Run program.

"Girls on the Run is not just a track program," explains Meredith.  "It's not about who runs the fastest and wins.  It's a process of getting to know yourself, your team and even your community.  The goal and mission of the program parallels my own philosophy of life so closely - it's like I was meant for the job!"
